Salmonella outbreak linked to eggs sold in Wisconsin sickens dozens
Health officials are urging people to avoid eating eggs from Rose Acre Farms in Seymour
The eggs have been linked to a Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak that has sickened at least 53 people in Wisconsin
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) is investigating an outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis infections linked to eggs from Rose Acre Farms in Seymour.
As of April 13, 2023, 53 people in Wisconsin have been sickened in the outbreak. Two people have been hospitalized, but no deaths have been reported.
The DHS is urging people to avoid eating eggs from Rose Acre Farms in Seymour. The eggs have been recalled by the company.
Symptoms of Salmonella infection include diarrhea, vomiting, fever, and abdominal cramps. The symptoms usually start within 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food.
Most people recover from Salmonella infection within a few days. However, some people, such as young children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems, may develop serious complications.

How to prevent Salmonella infection
There are a few things you can do to prevent Salmonella infection:
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after handling food.
- Cook eggs until the yolk and white are firm.
- Avoid eating raw or undercooked eggs.
- Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly before eating them.
- Do not eat food that has been left out at room temperature for more than two hours.
